Last month, Luke was here in Jersey for a sell-out performance of evening West End Classics.
Best known for playing the iconic roles of the Phantom as well as Jean Valjean in the recent arena tour and West End run of Les Misérables, we find out why music matters to him.
What do you enjoy the most about performing and what was your favourite performance?
I love performing because of the joy it brings not only myself, but the audience. It’s always a thrill to see audiences react to a story, or a song in different ways. It’s a different personal experience for everyone, which makes theatre so magical.
At what age did you start performing and how did you start?
I started performing at 15 by joining a male voice choir and a Welsh after school theatre school.
Why does Music Matter to you?
Music matters to me because of the impact it has on everyday life. Feeling sad? Listen to music. Feeling happy? Listen to music. There is music for every situation, and it’s wonderful.
Who have been your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are David Phelps and Josh Groban, listening to them growing up made me want to perform!
Finally, what can we expect next from you?
I will be joining the RSC for a play from August, and then I will be performing a new musical in London in December, very exciting.
