The Jersey Chamber Orchestra welcomes internationally acclaimed soprano Sophie Bevan for an evening of song and classics for voice and strings.
The programme features works by Schubert and Strauss, performed by soprano Sophie Bevan. The Jersey Chamber Orchestra accompanies her with pieces by Mozart and Grieg, including the Holberg Suite., a suite of lively and lyrical movements blending Baroque forms with Romantic warmth. The programme moves from the intimacy of lieder to the liveliness of string serenades, offering a varied experience of classical music.
This concert offers a truly immersive experience, combining the intimacy of a small ensemble with the grandeur of world-class performance. Sophie Bevan MBE – Soprano
Sophie Bevan is recognised as one of the leading lyric sopranos of her generation. She studied at the Royal College of Music, winning the Queen Mother Rose Bowl for excellence in performance. Her awards include the 2010 Critics’ Circle Exceptional Young Talent Award, The Times Breakthrough Award (2012), Young Singer Award at the International Opera Awards (2013), and she was made an MBE in 2019 for services to music.
She regularly performs with top orchestras worldwide under renowned conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, and Sir Mark Elder. Highlights include performances of Strauss’ Four Last Songs, Schubert Masses, St Matthew Passion, Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and concert performances of Pélleas et Mélisande, as well as world premieres by Ryan Wigglesworth.
Sophie is also an acclaimed recitalist, performing with leading pianists at venues including the Concertgebouw, Aldeburgh Festival, Oxford Lieder Festival, and Wigmore Hall.
In opera, her repertoire includes roles such as Ilia (Idomeneo), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes), Hermione (The Winter’s Tale), and Melisande (Pélleas et Mélisande), with performances at Royal Opera House, ENO, Glyndebourne, Salzburg Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera.
She lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, three children, and two cocker spaniels.
All proceeds from this concert will support Music in Action’s Outreach Programmes, which bring inspiring music experiences to schools, care homes, and community settings across Jersey.
