Gerald Durrell’s Centenary Concert and the life of Derek Lawrence

  • Jersey Opera House St Helier, Jersey (map)

Join Music in Action at the Jersey Opera House to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gerald Durrell and the life of Jersey composer Derek Lawrence who wrote the Durrell Suite for this concert.

Compered by Rob Houchen who plays Marius in Les Miserables in the West End, local Jersey charity Music in Action is hosting this unique event to celebrate the legacy of one of the world’s most renowned conservationists. Funds raised will support both the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Music in Action’s Jersey Sings project to help children in schools.

The animal themed evening at the newly refurbished Opera House will feature 150 musicians and children. The programme includes favourite music from Swan Lake to a specially commissioned 'Durrell Suite' performed by a choir with children from Jersey and Corfu where Gerald Durrell spent his childhood.

The music is directed by world renowned conductor Eamonn Dougan and played by the Jersey Chamber Orchestra.
