Concertante for Violin & Viola with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra and the Grammy nominated violinist Marianne Thorsen. The concert also features Beethoven’s popular 8th Symphony and the wonderfully exciting Roumanian folk dances by Bartok
finishing up with a special New Year encore.
Lawrence Power is widely regarded as one of the world’s great violists. He gained international recognition as the first British winner of The William Primrose International Viola Competition. He is much in demand as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician and has inspired many of the modern great composers to write music which he has premiered.”
Lawrence Power’s discography includes multiple acclaimed recordings as well as Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with Maxim Vengerov for EMI. His most recent recording of Hindemith’s sonatas was released in June 2009 and was chosen by Gramophone magazine as “Editor’s Choice”. A new Macmillan concerto commission with the London Philharmonic Orchestra will also be shortly premiered.
Marianne Thorsen is Lawrence Power’s choice of partner for the Mozart. Classic FM described her as “Engagingly fleet-fingered, sweet-toned, mellifluous performances, topped off with perfect cadenzas.” Her recordings of Mozart won Classic FM’s Best Album award in 2006, and the International Record Review stated “This was masterly playing, impeccably phrased and articulated. Rarely has Mozart come dancing off the page so enticingly.
