Mission:

We create opportunities for people from all backgrounds and of all ages to interact together with musical experiences that inspire, educate and support wellbeing.

Vision:

Transforming and enriching lives and communities through music.

Social Access Bursaries for children

In 2022-23 Music in Action ran a pilot scheme for 16 children at Janvrin School to see whether the studies showing that music could access and help children develop applied in Jersey. The results were dramatic.

The reports by headmaster Iain George said that all the children who took part showed developments in wellbeing, concentration powers or self esteem.

As a result the school asked Music in Action to run the scheme again. Music in Action are providing at least 42 bursaries for children at Janvrin School in 2023-24. And we are fundraising to provide 32 places to D’Auvergne school. To donate to help this project please contact support@musicjersey.com

Masquerade Ball - 15th September - a huge success

Music in Action is delighted that a Masquerade Ball generously hosted by His Excellency Vice-Admiral Kyd was held at Government House on Friday 15th September.

From a flashmob by Janvrin pupils, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other sounds of the Venetian court, to songs from Phantom of the Opera performed by Georgi Mottram and Rodney Earl Clark, Young Artist Brodie, to Jersey Bounce, the night was a musical delight.

Jersey Kitchen provided excellent food, and Murray Norton led the proceedings. The Ball was fundraising for children’s educational work and Music in Action’s Social Access scheme.

Thanks to the generosity of those present, the Ball raised over £30,000. Thank you for your support. We have another £28,000 to go to reach our target for educational work.

MUSIC IN ACTION - YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAMME LAUNCHED

Music in Action Young Artist Programme - Hamish Brodie

The Music in Action Young Artist’s Development Programme (MAYAP) has been launched to nurture the most talented young Jersey artists who wish to make their career in music through training and performance opportunities.

Focusing on the disadvantaged, and talented musicians, the program looks to help train and develop a new generation of celebrated Jersey performers, to learn to perform at the highest standards around the world. In recognition and gratitude for their generous support, the MAYAP is named after our current sponsor LGT Management. We are delighted to appoint Hamish Brodie and Lylis O’Hara as the first Young Artists.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT

Music in Action are sending out a message of hope to children, schools and residents in care homes. Our current main initiatives are concerts to boost spirits for those in long term care in residential care homes, and the education of children through Jersey Sings Across the Bay.

We are in urgent need of donations in order to continue our important community outreach initiatives. Thank you to those who have already donated.

BUY THE ALBUM - WALKING IN THE AIR

Buy the classic song Walking in the Air and raise money for charity Music in Action’s work in the community. The song is performed by Jonathan Mews.

Jonathan is a Jersey boy from Grouville school who become a music scholar at St John’s College Choir in Cambridge at the tender age of 8 years old. The CD remembers all those affected by Covid-19 including a family friend Ron Mitchell.

Donate to the cause and you will be sent the download code for the single.

Also on the mini album is the solo from “He Delivered” by Parry, and the uplifting African song Sansa Kroma from Zimbe by Alexander L’Estrange.

MAKING THE ALBUM

On the cover we see some of the influences in Jonathan’s life. The wonderful view over Mont Orgueil Castle in Gorey, St John’s Chapel and now Oundle School. And his beloved “cuddly” toy platypus called Platty.

Jonathan wanted to make this album for Music in Action to give back to the charity that helped him realise his dream of becoming a chorister. After taking part in Music in Action’s development programme he was spotted by Westminster Abbey and invited to sing with the choir.
